What is wewi?
wewi is a native macOS app that turns websites into desktop widgets. Add a URL to keep a live dashboard, chart, document, or notes page on your Mac desktop, then customize its position, size, opacity, and refresh interval.
How do I turn a website into a desktop widget on Mac?
Install and open wewi. From the menu bar, open Settings → Features → Add Widget. Enter a name and URL, choose a size preset, and click Add Widget. Drag the widget to position it and resize it on your desktop.
Which Macs does wewi support?
wewi requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. Separate downloads are available for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Open Apple menu → About This Mac to check your chip or processor.
Can I use any website as a widget?
wewi loads website URLs using WebKit. Sites that require specific browser features or sign-in flows may behave differently. Automatic, Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop modes request different site layouts; they do not guarantee compatibility or emulate touch hardware.
Do widgets stay visible across macOS Spaces?
Yes. wewi supports widgets across macOS Spaces. You can also set a separate auto-refresh interval for each widget and save its scroll position to restore it when the app relaunches.
What does Screen Lock do?
Screen Lock blocks interaction with the webpage inside a widget, helping prevent accidental clicks while you keep information in view. It does not lock your Mac.
Where are my settings and website data stored?
Widget settings are stored locally on your Mac. Websites you add receive browser requests and may share WebKit cookies. Clearing cookies for a site can sign you out of other widgets using that domain. Update checks connect to GitHub. Optional crash reporting is off by default. Read the full terms and privacy policy in Settings → Help & Support.
Can I install wewi with Homebrew?
Yes. Run brew install --cask elixirevo/tap/wewi in Terminal to install wewi from the elixirevo Homebrew tap.
